Privacy Policy
Last updated July 14, 2026 · Version 1.0
This policy explains what SquawkTrail (Casting Karma LLC) collects about you, our user, why, and your choices. We do not sell your personal information, we don’t show third-party ads, and we don’t use advertising trackers. SquawkTrail sends alerts by email only — we do not collect your phone number and we do not send SMS.
An important distinction up front
SquawkTrail deals with two very different kinds of information, and we treat them differently:
- Your account information — what you give us to use the service (your email, the aircraft you watch, your payment). This policy is mostly about this, and it’s the information you have rights over.
- Public FAA aircraft records — facts about aircraft (and, where the FAA publishes it, their registered owners) that we mirror from the FAA’s public database. This is public government record about third parties, not data we collected from you. How we handle it — including honoring FAA withholding requests — is described under “Aircraft records and owner privacy” below.
What we collect about you
Account: your email and password (passwords are hashed by our authentication provider — we never see them). Your watchlist: the aircraft tail numbers you choose to monitor and your alert settings. Payment: if you subscribe, our payment processor (Stripe) collects and holds your card details — we never see or store your full card number; we keep a record of the purchase. Usage: basic technical logs (device/browser, IP address, error data) to keep the service working and secure. Consent records: which version of our terms you accepted, when, and the IP/browser used.
How we use it
To provide the service — run your watchlist against the FAA record and send you the email alerts you asked for — plus process payments, keep the service reliable and secure, and respond to support. That’s it.
Aircraft records and owner privacy
The aircraft and owner information SquawkTrail displays comes from the FAA public Releasable Aircraft Database. We honor the FAA’s owner-privacy process: we display only what is in the current public file, we mark records an owner has asked the FAA to withhold, we do not resurface owner information the FAA has since suppressed, and we do not display owner street addresses. If you are an aircraft owner and want your information withheld, the controlling step is to file a withholding request with the FAA (via CARES); once it’s reflected in the public file, it flows through to us. You may also email privacy@squawktrail.com and we will suppress it on our side.
Service providers
We use trusted vendors to run SquawkTrail, each processing data only to provide their part of the service: Vercel (hosting), Supabase (authentication and database), Stripe (payments), and Resend (transactional and alert email). If we add privacy-conscious, aggregate analytics, we’ll update this list before turning it on.
Sharing you control
Your account and watchlist are private. We don’t sell or rent your personal information, and we don’t share it except with the service providers above, to comply with law, or to protect the service.
Data retention, deletion, and your choices
You can edit or delete your watchlist, export your data, and delete your account anytime from your settings. When you delete your account we delete your profile and watchlist from our live systems, and they age out of encrypted backups within about 30 days. We keep transaction records for as long as tax and accounting law requires (generally up to seven years), and consent records for as long as needed to show what was agreed. To make a privacy request, email privacy@squawktrail.com — we respond within 30 days, we honor these requests for all users regardless of where they live, and we will never charge you or degrade your service for exercising a privacy right.
Cookies
We use the cookies needed to keep you signed in and the service secure. We don’t use advertising trackers and we don’t track you across other websites.
Security
We use encryption in transit and at rest, row-level access controls so one account can’t read another’s data, and hashed passwords. No service can promise perfect security, but if a breach ever affects your personal information we’ll notify you and any regulator the law requires, without undue delay.
Children
SquawkTrail is for adults (18+) and is not directed to children. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes and contact
We’ll post material changes here with a new version and date and ask you to accept them the next time you sign in.
